Although the town has no public rubbish pick-up service; the town does maintain the transfer station, where garbage is received and compacted before being trucked to a plant in Hartford, CT. The transfer station is for the use of residents and private contractors who collect trash from Guilford homes.

The fee effective July 1, 1997, for dumping 100 pounds is $7.

Single Stream Recycling Information – What is acceptable and items that are prohibited.

The town does not charge residents who drop off fewer than seven televisions or electronics at the Recycling Center.

The Town of Guilford files reports about annual waste and recycling with CT DEEP. These reports are filed at the Town Hall and available for review if anyone is interested.

There is no longer a dumpster at the Recycling Station for used books. However, books that are in SALEABLE condition can be dropped off at the Guilford Free Library any time during library hours. “Saleable” books are contemporary and vintage books that are: NOT dirty, moldy, sticky, chewed, stained, browned, torn, underlined, or highlighted. And please, no magazines or videos.

A receipt is always provided for your tax returns.

Donations are sold by the Friends of the Guilford Free Library to benefit programs and acquisitions of the Library.

Books not in saleable condition as well as magazines can be disposed of with other recyclables at the Recycling Station.
